This exhibition features Tsukiji Fish Market, an early masterpiece by Shen Chao-Liang, one of Taiwan’s leading photographers, along with his three series exploring Taiwanese popular culture: STAGE, Singers & Stages, and Taiwanese Vaudeville Troupes. The fold-out, mobile stage trucks that appear at ceremonies, weddings, funerals, and other local festivals in Taiwan instantly transform familiar streets into bustling stages. The island of Taiwan has undergone repeated political transitions and absorbed diverse cultural influences, continually changing as it moves forward. Through these colorful stages, the lives and history of its people reveal themselves.
