George Nakashima (1905–1990), one of the leading furniture designers of the 20th century, referred to himself as a “woodworker.”
At the heart of his craftsmanship, which was grounded in a deep understanding of wood, lay his training in architecture—studies he pursued in college and honed at the Raymond Architectural Design Office.
This exhibition presents his representative furniture alongside his architectural work, exploring the spirit of Nakashima as expressed in his forms.
